Al hamdu lilâhi zil ijâdi wa qidami

Mumidinâ bi wujûdil badri zil qadami

Praise be to God, the Creator, the Pre-Eternal,

Who brought us forth from the essence of the “Moon” — the First Creation.

Suma sallâtu wa tasslimune ya’ûfu alâ

Misskine wa randine alâ zil fadli wal qadami

May the most fragrant peace and exalted blessings

Surpass even musk and rand upon the Noble, the Most Honored of Creatures.

Wa âlihi muhtadînal khîratil kuramâ

Al mutami sîratil Mukhtâri wal qadami

Upon his noble family, who tread the righteous path —

The elect among the noble, walking the way of the Chosen One.

Mâ ar’ada rahduwa wal warqâ’u tanhibu mine

Hadîlihâ wa jazâ dam’une minal qalami

As long as thunder roars and doves coo

Toward his lineage, ink will continue to flow from the pen.

Wa inahu ize arâda Lâhu nach atanâ

Abâna mine nûrihî nûra nabiyil alamî

When God willed our creation,

He began with the light of the Prophet — the Light of the Worlds.

Inal awâlima âlîhâ wa sâfilahâ

Achi’atu tala’ate mine afdali nassami

The higher and lower realms of the cosmos

Are rays emanating from the noblest of beings.

Wa ahlama Lâhu hâdînâ bi nubuwatu

Wa kâna Âdamu bayna nafssi wa nassami

God revealed prophethood to our guide

While Adam was still between soul and clay.

Uyûnul arwâhi mine nûril hudâ inbajassate

Fa inahu jinssune ahlâ mahdiru sutumi

The springs of souls burst forth from the Light of Guidance —

He is the origin of the purest kind, the root of all creation.

Wa khalqu ahlâqi bahssu anbiyâ’i zuhuwine

Rihi muqadimatune fahlam wa lâ tanami

The character and missions of prophets were but signs of his coming —

Know this, and do not slumber in heedlessness.

Fî âlimil mulki wal arwâhu tâbihatune

Li rûhi wal jismi hâzâ hâyatul karami

In this world of dominion, souls reflect

His spirit and body — the very essence of divine honor.

Wa kâna muhtajibane mine qablu fi hujubine

Yussabihu Lâhâ fîhâ hayra mutassimi

He was veiled before in twelve coverings,

In each, he glorified God constantly.

Kullu hijâbine aqâmal badri mine huqubine

Fîhi li Tâhati mawlânâ bila sa’ami

Within each veil, the “Moon” (the Prophet) dwelt,

Worshipping his Lord tirelessly.

Wa kulluhâ hâza tassbîhane yaqussu bihi

Âti bi tartîbihâ fi hussri muntazami

Each veil held a distinct glorification —

I shall recount them in perfect order:

Fa qudratune minatune mine qablihâ izamune

Wa rahmatune wa sa’âdatune li musstalimi

First came Power and then Greatness,

Followed by Mercy and Bliss for the devoted servant.

Karâmatune bahdahâ fil adi manzilatune

Hidâyatune wa nubuwatune falâ tahimi

Then Honor in this world, followed by Guidance

And Prophethood — do not stop counting!

Wa rif’atune tâ’atul mawlâ chafâ’atuhû

Fîhâ tamâmu lizâ tartîbi fahtakimi

Elevation, obedience to the Lord, and Intercession —

These complete the order; reflect with wisdom.

Wa fâtihune abhurane ya a’â bihâ sabakha al

Jamîha mine nazrati wal hubi wa ruhumi

His light crossed ten seas, surpassing all creation

Through insight, love, and compassion.

Wa qudratine summa ikrâmine wa mahrifatine

Chafâ’atine wa hudane jûdine wa mine hikami

With might, nobility, gnosis,

Intercession, guidance, generosity, and wisdom.

Lihâ nûrune yakûnu Lâhu mûdi’ahu

Abal warâ tâhirane fi tâhiri chiyami

This light — which God placed in the father of humanity (Adam) —

Was pure, noble in essence.

Wa kâna Chîssu wa siwal assli mutafilane

Mine hîrati karami lil hîratil karami

It was entrusted to Seth, then transferred

From one noble to an even nobler lineage.

Hatâ antahâ bi nûru muhtaqirane

Li hâdatil urbi fihral jillati nuzumi

Until it settled, outshining all other lights,

In the tribe of Fihr, the noblest of the Arabs.

Wa hayru Chîussine famâ tâtîhi munqaridane

Hawâ’a’u takrîma nûrine hayri mussdahami

Hawâ bore no other child after Seth —

In honor of this unmatched light.

Chapter Two: On the Mention of His Forefathers (Genealogy of the Prophet)

Al fasslu sâni fi zikri abâ’ihî

Salla Lâhu aleyhi wa salama wa ummahatihime

Yâ hâ’issal bahri li assdâfi indi ra’ass..

dâfume daratune ahlâ minal jalami

O you who dive into the sea in search of pearls —

I have pearls more radiant than the full moon!

Muhammadune nûru Abdilâhi Chaybata Hâ.

chimine wa Abdi Manâfine mah Qussayhimi

Muhammad (570–632) is the light of ʿAbd Allāh, son of Shaybah (ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib),

Of Hāshim, of ʿAbd Manāf, and of Quṣayy.

Kilâba Murrata Kahbine wa Luwayyi wa Ghâ..

Libine wa Fihrine wa Mâlik Nadril karami

Of Kilāb, of Murrah, of Kaʿb, of Lu’ayy, of Ghālib,

Of Fihr, of Mālik, and of Naḍr — the Noble One.

Kinânatine wa Huzaymatine wa Mudrikatine

Ilyâssa maha Mudaril hamra (a)’i sîrihimi

Of Kināna, of Khuzayma, of Mudrika,

Of Ilyās, and of Muḍar the red — know their noble secrets.

Adid Nizârane Ma’adane mane yujawizu

Adnâna fa takzîbuhû qad jâ’a minal alami

Then ʿAd, Nizār, Maʿadd — whoever goes beyond

Adnān in this genealogy is indeed mistaken, as reported.

Hamla ma’adine lichâmine armiyâ zakaru

Ize buhtu nassara fi tadmîri urbihimi

Historians tell of Maʿadd’s transfer to Shām by Armiya,

When Nebuchadnezzar was destroying the lands of the Arabs.

Li anahume hurumâti lâhi qad atakû

Ize qatalû anbiyâ’a lâhi mine jurami

For those peoples had violated God’s sanctities,

And killed His prophets without just cause.

Ize kâna hâmila nûri lâhi kâna alâ

Hifzil ilâhi bila chakine wa lâ tuhami

But as the bearer of God’s light,

He was under divine protection — without doubt, beyond harm.

Wa qîla fal malakânil hâmilani bihî

Wa zâ hadîssu abni Abâssine Aqil hikami

It is said that two angels carried him,

As reported by Ibn ʿAbbās, the sage of wisdom.

Wa qîla Adnânu fal mahmûlu wâliduhû

Wa awalul akssaril assfâ minal kalimi

Others said it was Adnān who was carried —

This version is the most widespread and most sound.

Wa Buhtu nassara ize nirânuhû hamadata

Radune ma’adane ilal ahwâlihil karami

When Nebuchadnezzar’s sacred fires were extinguished,

Maʿadd was returned to his noble kin.

Wa hume biq(h)â yâ wulatil bayti hinâ’izine

Wa zawajûhu fayâ hussna ahtilâ tihimi

They were then custodians of the Sacred House (Kaʿba),

And they wedded him — O, how beautiful their union!

Laqâ Abna afâna fi Muhîratine wa Atîqane

Inda Murrata Fâruqane bi Kahbihimi

Muhammad’s ancestors also encountered Ibn ʿAffān,

Through Muʿīra and ʿAtīq, then through Murrah and Farūq via Kaʿb.

Amâ Aliyane bilâ chakine qadil taqayâ

Bi Chaybatil hamdi zil afdâli wal himi

And surely ʿAlī too, they intersected

Through Shaybah of praise, of noble character and lofty aims.

Amal buhûru lizî assdâfi fâ ashâ ilâ

Tartibihinâ tula fi hayra muntazami

Now the seas have yielded their pearls —

Listen to their sequence, the most harmonious of arrangements:


Chapter Three: On the Mention of His Mother and Her Noble Lineage

Al fasslu Sâlissu fi zikri umihi wa jadâtihi

Salla Lâhu aleyhi wa salama mine jihati umihi

Amînatu bintu Wahbine ibni Abdi Manâfine

ibni Zuhrata umul Mustaphal alami

Blessings upon him from the maternal line:

Amina, daughter of Wahb, son of ʿAbd Manāf,

Of Zuhrah — the mother of al-Muṣṭafā (the Chosen One) of the worlds.

Ibni Kilâbine wa qul fîhi antimâ buhumâ

Âtikatune qila Hindune umu Wahbihimi

Son of Kilāb — say that in him two noble lines converged:

Ātikah or Hind — both are said to be the mother of Wahb.

Wa hayra zâlika qâlû kâna Seydu qawmihi

Kamâ jâ’a anâ fardane li assrihimi

Wahb was the chief of his people, they said,

And the noblest man of his time.

Wa Barratune (,) umuhâ’a ay’umu Âminatine

Umu Habîbine fa umu baratil karimi

Barrah was her mother — that is, Amina’s mother —

And Umm Ḥabībah was Barrah’s mother, the gracious.

Wa Baratum bintu Awfine umu Umi Habîbine

La tazal dâ’imane fil bahti wal hi(?)mi

Barrah bint ʿAwf was the mother of Umm Ḥabībah —

Continue researching her noble heritage diligently.

Wa fî Qussayine liqâ’ul Mustaphâ maha Bar..

ratine wa umu Habîbi bi tifâqihimi

Through Qusayy, al-Muṣṭafā met

Barrah and Umm Ḥabībah — as all sources agree.

Wa Baratum bintu Awfine wal qâ’u alâ

Kahbine wa harir wa la tudih haqimi

Barrah bint ʿAwf connects also through Kaʿb —

Preserve the truth of this noble lineage.

Wa Abdu Mutâlibin mime bahdu marâ ilâ

Fatâti Zuhrati zâtil majdi wal karami

ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib later met

A noble girl from Zuhrah — full of glory and honor.

Marâ alâ amra’atine tud’â bi Fâtimatine

Tabghil mamâ’a ileyhâ wahya nurumi

They first approached a woman named Fāṭimah,

Who longed for union but was not the destined one.

Wa hâzâ ize zâka Abdu Lâhi Sayyidunâ

Hudwane ilal khayrinâ fi dayri wal nihami

This was the time when our master ʿAbd Allāh

Was 18 years old, full of virtue, far from vice.

Lika yussayrahâ sadfane liduwatihi

Âminatune naqyate arssâ’iri tuhami

He was destined for Amina — the pearl bearing gold,

Pure and free of all blemish.

Wa qîla zawajahâ wahbune wa qîla Wuhaybune

Amuhâ wa munbûhâ bi hijrihimi

It is said Wahb gave her in marriage,

Others say it was her uncle Wuhayb, her guardian.

Wa hiya hîna’izine ahlâ nissâ’a charafane

Wa nissbatabane waftihârane mine judûdihimi

At that time, she was the noblest of women

By lineage and ancestry, full of pride and honor.

Fi chihbi yawma sinal Mukhtâra qad hamalate

Wa qâla Sahlu ibnu Abdu lâhi zul wazami

It was in Shib, on a Monday, that she conceived the Chosen One —

As reported by Sahl ibn ʿAbd Allāh, the wise and resolute.
